*Turn with me to John & Acts / We are in the second week of “Pneuma” which is the Journey from the resurrection to Pentecost.
Last week re-cap : Part 1 was “Don’t Skip Breakfast”
What happened right after the resurrection: well Peter at the depths of his frustration goes back to what he used to do
only to be thrust into what he thought was his life but now its entering a new era
and its a great thing… that he DIDN’T SKIP Breakfast.
Imagine if He did.
Imagine the life he would have lived instead.
Im just telling you - The UNHURRIED NATURE of Our father in HEAVEN is the most beautful thing in the life of a believer.
Acts 1:1–11 (ESV)
1 In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2 until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. 3 He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” 9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

Title: “Just Wait, You’ll See”

Prayer of Faith: recovery of sight for the blind, lame walking, deaf hearing.
We have entered into the book of acts but i believe it could be helpful to duck back into John as well and read these in tandem, because they are connected.
In acts 1, Jesus speaks and said Wait - Wait for the promise.
and this was the promise that He had already given to them, spoken to them in John:
The two critical passages are Jn 14 and Jn 16.
John 14:15–30 (ESV)
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
John 16:4–15 (ESV)
4 But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you.
“I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. 5 But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
There is alot to unpack here…..
John 14 - Is the assurances and commands section of the book of John. After he washed them, He instructed them. He also assured them.
Jesus knew they would need help to fulfil his commands.
So he gives them this promise in John - almost a bookmark of sorts when you think about it in relation to ACTS 1.
That in a while, you’ll see me for a minute & then ill go but its OK because you will havethe holy spirit who will come when i have gone (gone) what he is talking about there is the between the resurrection and the ascension.
Then we see in the beginning of Acts, The nearing of this time.
Jesus says to the disciples to WAIT for the promise.
Acts 1:4–5 ESV
4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
I want to take a moment from John & fom the beginning of Acts to teach about the nature of God as expressed here in these verses and its my hope today
that
*one: something LEAPS OUT AT YOU
*You get a new appreciation for the HOLY SPIRIT
****caveat: some of you dont like where this is going already because you have either had a bad experience, been taught something that wasnt right.. or maybe it could even be you who was the one teaching it., OR you heard someone say something about the HOLY SPIRIT that has allowed you to be ruled by that for some time.
today is a day of FREEDOM.
****what i have noticed: there is always stiff opposition in the spirit realm whenever i go to teach about HIM (the Spirit). because where the spirit of the Lord is, there is FREEDOM. Not bondage.
Write this down: if i’m under attack, im right on track.
So we are in the lead up to the time that -

1.HE WAS PROMISED

Prophesied in the OLD TESTAMENT - We will see that when we read in a couple of weeks when Peter stands up and says it - But the SPIRIT being promised was talked about in the OT
But…..The Holy Spirit was actually promised to the disciples by JESUS When jesus sat with the disciples, HE introduced the HOLY SPIRIT as something Promised Given Powerful Transformative

2.HE IS A GIFT (TO BE POURED OUT)

The Holy spirit was poured out & still comes to everyone who believes John 14:16
John 14:16 ESV
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,
A gift that lasts forever? i like the sound of that Gift.
Jesus declares that this is what He is, He is a GIFT.
Let me ask you - how do you receive a GIFT? you accept that its given to you. you receive it. You allow it
Now let me ask you this? have you ever asked God to give you this gift? like truly ask HIM. God i want that?
Often times we dont because we dont know, but now you know!
What does the HOLY SPIRIT do in my life:
He helps me / I cant help myself.
He teaches me / I make a horrible teacher
He brings things to remembrance / My memory is pathetic at the best of times. But isnt it interesting that
He guides me
He counsels me
He leads me into all truth (which means he protects me from falsehood, lies, decption,
He brings my into new places of freedom.
now let me ask you again, wouldnt you want that? what a gift (we are going to pray over peopl

3.HE WAS ALWAYS PART OF THE PLAN

THE HOLY SPIRIT COMPLETES THE WORK GOD HAS DONE through CHRIST
why?
because Jesus asks the FATHER for him to be sent
Its part of the completed work of CHRIST.
HE CAME TO COMPLETE WHAT JESUS HAS DONE— The Holy Spirit is part of the completed work of Christ.
You cannot separate the work of the HOLY SPIRIT at pentecost with the finished work of the CROSS.
FATHER - SON - HOLY SPIRIT You cant have the holy spirit without JESUS. and the WARNING to us today is dont try to have the son without the SPIRIT.
YOU CANT DO IT WITHOUT HIM: YOU NEED THE POWER
The SPIRIT is necessary to DO what Jesus had commanded the disciples, the apostles and the earyly church to do.
write this down: The Spirit Empowers my WITNESS.
Jesus sad what?
John
They are to be understood and unique and seperate but GIVEN to us as a complete package. Dont you want what everything God has for you? Thank God He didnt LEAVE us without the ABILITY to do HIS COMMANDS>
WHat he promised
He delivered on.
Because NOW, we have Him - and the HOLY SPIRIT is here even now - to help us.
John 14:15–30 (ESV)
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him.
